What to Expect from Vegetarian Food at Bakken

A day at Bakken is longer than most people plan for: rides, shows, a walk through the Dyrehaven deer park, and, by early afternoon, real hunger. Most park food is built around meat and quick snacks, which leaves vegetarians choosing between chips and a waffle. We built our menu so that a vegetarian eats just as well as everyone else at the table, with a full, warming plate rather than a side dish.

Our vegetarian dishes are not an afterthought. They come from the same North Indian tradition as our curries, where vegetables, lentils, and fresh cheese have always been the centre of the meal, not a substitute for meat. That heritage is why a plate of Dal Tadka and naan feels complete on its own.

The Best Vegetarian Food at Bakken from Indian Bites

The menu at Bakken is focused, and the meat-free options are among the most reordered dishes we make. Every main comes with basmati rice.

Palak Paneer (135 DKK)

This is our signature vegetarian main: soft cubes of fresh paneer in a smooth, deep-green spinach sauce, finished with garam masala and a touch of cream. It is mild, rich, and comforting, the dish guests most often come back for. In our kitchen we blanch and blend the spinach fresh so the sauce stays bright rather than dull, and we add the paneer near the end so it stays tender instead of rubbery.

Dal Tadka (125 DKK)

Yellow lentils, slow-simmered until soft, then finished with a tadka: hot oil tempered with cumin seeds, garlic, and dried chilli poured over the top just before serving. That final step is where the flavour comes from, and we do it to order rather than in advance, which is why the aroma hits you before the bowl reaches the table. It is naturally vegan-friendly and one of the most satisfying plant-based plates in the park.

Vegetable Pakora and Samosa (49 DKK each)

For something to start with or to share, the Vegetable Pakora are fritters of vegetables in a spiced chickpea batter, fried crisp. The Samosa are folded by hand and filled with spiced potato and peas. Both are made fresh, not reheated, and travel well if you are taking them out into the park.

Naan and Mango Lassi

Round the meal out with naan, baked to order in plain (25 DKK), garlic (30 DKK), or cheese (35 DKK). A Mango Lassi at 39 DKK, chilled and lightly sweet, is the classic pairing and a favourite with children.

How We Cook Our Vegetarian Food

Good Indian vegetarian food is about spices used with intent, not heat for its own sake. We grind our own blends and lean on cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, and fenugreek, with garam masala added late so its aroma survives to the plate. The vegetarian dishes are cooked in their own pans, separate from the meat, which matters to strict vegetarians and lets a mixed group order freely from one table.

Spice level is something we adjust by hand. Palak Paneer and Dal Tadka are mild by default, and when parents ask us to make it gentle for a child, we do. If you want more heat, tell us and we will build it in. That kind of small adjustment is easy to do when every plate is cooked to order, which is how we work at Bakken.
