From Punjab to Pustervig, one tandoor at a time.
Atamjit and Gurminder's journey began with a family recipe from North India and a simple promise: to serve food that tastes like home. Seven years later, more than 200,000 Copenhageners have taken a seat at our table.
How it all began.
A boy's hands in the naan dough.
Atamjit Singh grew up in Punjab, the North Indian region where every family has its own tandoor oven and its own version of butter chicken. As a boy he stood side by side with his mother and grandmother in the kitchen: kneading dough, toasting spices, slow-simmering curries as the sun set behind the wheat fields.
The recipes were never written down. They were passed on – like a language, a memory, a gift. That is where a love of food became a craft.
Five minutes from Nørreport, a whole India away.
In 2019 Atamjit opened the doors to Indian Bites at Pustervig 4. A small restaurant with a big tandoor oven, spices imported directly from Punjab, and a simple promise: no ready-made shortcuts. Every dish from scratch, every day.
The first months were long. Then the reviews started coming in. One star at a time. One guest at a time. People who came back the following week and brought their friends.
Two people, one family business.
Gurminder brought the same passion – and the ability to hold it all together. While Atamjit stood at the tandoor, Gurminder built the operation: guests who had to feel welcome, catering for the big weddings, the phone that never stopped ringing.
Today Atamjit and Gurminder run Indian Bites as what it has always been: a family business. Every dish is made with the same care we would give our own family.
Three locations. One kitchen. Same recipe.
From Pustervig we grew to Bakken in Klampenborg and to Reffen Street Food on Refshaleøen. But wherever you meet us, it's the same tandoor-baked naan, the same slow-simmered curry, and the same standard of quality. We have served over 200,000 guests, catered 200+ events, and every plate is still prepared as if it were for our own family.
The family behind every plate.
Atamjit Singh
Raised in Punjab, where the tandoor oven is part of the family. Atamjit brought generations of recipes with him to Copenhagen and recreates them exactly as his grandmother made them: slowly, patiently, without shortcuts.
Gurminder
The one who makes sure every guest feels at home, from the first hello to the last bite. Gurminder is behind the operations, the catering, and the warmth that sets Indian Bites apart from other Indian restaurants in Copenhagen.
Four things we never compromise on.
Authentic from scratch
Every dish is prepared daily from raw ingredients. No ready-made products. No shortcuts. Spices imported directly from India.
